Hidden Valley Hundo
100km gravel ride beginning from the Colorado Trail
The Hidden Valley Hundo is an extension of the Sprucewood Grinder, an annual Denver ride you almost certainly have never heard of. regardless, the route combines a mix of gravel, asphalt, and singletrack for a challenging adventure-ride through the foothills and front range just south of Denver.
first thing- this is a long day in the saddle. The HVH100 lends itself to riders who are okay with technical riding and fewer refuel points. There probably will be moments of textbook Type-2 fun. A couple of hike-a-bikes too, no doubt.
But itβs all worth it. Though the singletrack climb over the first segment of the Colorado Trail is the obvious highlight, riding through Platte Canyon and the roller coaster descent off Rampart Range are definite runner-ups. The final stretch is also a gradual, asphalt cruise which is a welcomed conclusion to the day.
important notes are that there are steep sections of rocky, singletrack and a couple miles of highway-shoulder riding toward the end. There are also only two refuel spots along the way. The first is the Sprucewood Inn, a bar near Twin Cedars. The second is the gas station in Sedalia, which is on the final leg of the ride.
